The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) was established in April 2012, as an independent intergovernmental body open to all member countries of the United Nations. The members are committed to building IPBES as the leading intergovernmental body for assessing the state of the planet’s biodiversity, its ecosystems and the essential services they provide to society.
The first of the IPBES Assessments is looking at the issue of pollinators and food production. The task ahead of them is daunting and their proposed work is comprehensive. The scope of their work includes examining both monetary and non-monetary values of pollinators. The team of researchers have indicated they are also very keen to include case studies of cultures who have strong traditions of celebrating and honouring pollinators.
As per a request from our friends and colleagues in the IUCN Commission on Environment, Economic & Social Policy (CEESP), are any CSVPA members able to recommend relevant resources, and/or identify cultures with such traditions?
