Some of you may be interested in a just-published book Stan Stevens (Senior Lecturer in Geography, University of Massachusetts Amherst, MA, USA) has edited, Indigenous Peoples, National Parks, and Protected Areas: a New Paradigm Linking Conservation, Culture, and Rights (University of Arizona Press, 2014). It highlights local community conserved territories and areas (ICCAs) as a key new paradigm approach. The book captures a variety of authors and contains a diverse range of issues related to the ever changing paradigm of protected areas. It is very timely and rich in content. It would be most relevant to those who like to better understand the interface between local and indigenous ways of stewardship versus protected areas as a conservation approach.
Information on the book has been posted to the local community conserved territories and areas (ICCAs) Consortium blog page. Besides the paperback, which is available from the press, Amazon.com etc., Amazon.com now has an e-book available in Kindle. There is a preview available of the book.
