On Monday, 9 February 2015 from 09:30 to 16:30 (GMT), the IUCN National Committee UK will organise a one day conference on Protected Areas: Implications of the Global Agenda in Edinburgh, UK. This one-day conference will follow four main themes:
Two morning sessions: Feedback from the 2014 IUCN World Parks Congress held in Sydney, Australia in November, from participants attending the event. Implications of ‘The Message from Sydney’, the evolving agenda and its implications, particularly for Scotland but relevant to the rest of the UK. Covering also Healthy Parks/ Healthy People and geoheritage. The IUCN Protected Area Management Categories and the role of protected areas including the UK launch of the latest Putting Nature on the Map report and recommendations, and discussion on how to implement them.
Two afternoon sessions: The Independent Review of Protected Areas in Scotland The works and results of the Review Panel will be presented by the Panel Chair, Simon Pepper, with delegate discussion. Planning the Future An opportunity to contribute your views and experience to help form the agenda for action, including how to get involved in the ‘Little Sydney’ conference in Austria, 28- 31st May 2015.
Plenary Q&A and group discussion will be encouraged within the programme. Each Delegate Ticket (£35) includes access to the conference, free WiFi, refreshment breaks and buffet lunch.
