The chair and co-chairs of CSVPA would like to commemorate Thymio Papayannis’ legacy via a special issue of the CSVPA newsletter which is going to be revived. Thymio was born in Greece in 1934 and died last month (May 2026). Trained as an architect, he dedicated his life to building bridges between people and their environment. Thymio received a prize from the Ramsar Convention for his work on the conservation of wetlands.
To honour the focus of his life’s work, we propose a CSVPA special issue focused on themes around sacred and/or culturally valued waters (we are going to interpret Thymio’s legacy broadly since wetlands specifically might not be everyone’s area of work). Please send in contributions by the *17th of July *to radhika DOT borde AT gmail.com . Please also send pictures accompanying
your contributions.
Additionally, please spread the word about this call for contributions to friends and colleagues beyond CSVPA, who may be interested in contributing, and who may have valuable and relevant things to share.
The three formats for contributing are as follows:
VIEWS: Up to 700 word opinion pieces or essays that take up a relevant case study and discuss it at some length.
UPDATES: Up to 300 word contributions that disseminate information on the work you are doing on a relevant topic.
NEWS & EVENTS: Short pieces – up to 150 words – giving information on conferences, new publications (these could be on sacred/culturally valued natural sites of any kind, not just water-related) that you have published since April 2025, new opportunities, calls for contributions to journal issues/edited volumes, policy developments and changes – relevant news of any kind.
In addition to this, we would also like to ask for pieces on Thymio and his
work – those of you who know him well and have worked with him, please
contribute pieces upto 700 words long.
We hope many of you will consider contributing.
Warmest wishes,
Radhika, Archana and Alison
